From Sketches to Reality: The Journey of the Hartley Attire Brand

The story began in the 1960s in Copthorne, West Sussex, when the grandparents of Stephanie Hartley, Chris and Pete Breach founded Ambassadors Arabian Stud Farm, where they bred, showed and raced Arabian horses. In the 1980s, the Breaches relocated to Spain and forged a close relationship with the Spanish Ministry, which allowed them to introduce their Arabian bloodline to Spanish Andalusian horses, known as the Hispano-Arabe breed.

The below articles, taken from the prestigious 'Country Weekly' magazine, and written by Sue Brierley, show Stephanie and her grandparents having fun with their home-reared Llamas at their stud farm in the UK. The articles also provide a look at 'Magnifico' (stable name Miko), one of their many famous Arabian horses. The picture of Chris and Miko was taken in the 1980's, where Miko had just won the veteran class at the main Arabian show.

Stephanie spent the majority of her childhood being raised between Spain and France, by both Pete and Chris (in Spain) and her parents (in France). Stephanie was educated in France and enjoyed Spain in a more practical sense, spending time with family, friends and animals, having fun, experiencing and absorbing the Spanish culture. Chris along with many riding instructors (including Mummy) taught Stephanie to ride in multiple disciplines, of which the Spanish Doma vaquera soon became her favourite style of riding and would also serve as inspiration behind the Hartley Attire brand.

Stephanie spent years contemplating how fashion could combine with the equestrian and country scene. In 2020, a notebook full of sketches and ideas evolved into a real equestrian and country clothing range called 'Hartley Attire'.

Our Brand and What Makes it Unique

Hartley Attire is not just another equestrian and country clothing brand that is purely 'practical'. Stephanie wanted 'Hartley Attire' to have an element of fun too. The clothing range is entirely unique and inspired by the distinguished look of different horse breeds. The logo itself is based on the Baroque style horse bit and forms the 'H' of the Hartley Attire logo. There are different versions of the logo, such as for casual wear (Attire), equine wear (Equestrian), and children’s wear (Bambini), which you will see in future collections.

Stephanie is mother to four beautiful daughters; the top centrepiece of the Hartley Attire logo is dedicated to them by incorporating the first initial from each of their names. Their names are Sienna, Scarlett, Paloma and Tallulah; the children are affectionately referred to as the 4 Bambinos.
